AIRS-J/1 · Access support
Ask for the support you need before you sit.
A candidate may ask for an access support before assessment and receives a written decision with reasons. Approved supports keep what the assessment measures the same, so every result means the same thing.
The rules, as written
What the Standard says.
8.9 Accessibility and accommodations. Every certifying instrument meets published accessibility requirements (set for StepSim in Annex F) and supports a documented accommodations process. A candidate may request an access support before assessment and receives a written decision with reasons. Approved supports must preserve the construct, decision points, stakes profile and assessment integrity; they are recorded under Section 7.1.1 and Annex C. A denial or material misapplication is appealable under Section 18.6. Request procedures and decision authority are published with this edition's release.
How to ask
- Ask at least 10 working days before your sitting. Use the contact page or write to hello@airapac.org. Say what support you need and why. You do not need to share a diagnosis. Share only what is needed to understand the request.
- AIR APAC acknowledges the request within 3 working days.
- AIR APAC decides in writing, with reasons, within 5 working days of the request. A support is approved when it keeps the construct, the decision points, the stakes profile and assessment integrity unchanged.
- An approved support is recorded (section 7.1.1 and Annex C) and arranged with the facilitator before your sitting.
If a support is denied, or you believe it was not applied correctly, you may appeal under section 18.6. See the appeals procedure. The first appeal is free. Late requests are still considered. Ask as early as you can.
