AIRS-J/1 · Checklist

A checklist before I file an appeal

Only some decisions under AIRS-J/1 can be appealed, and only on set grounds. Tick these boxes before the appeal is sent.

Eyebrow: For candidates · AIRS-J/1 v2.3 · Appeals

Only some decisions under AIRS-J/1 can be appealed, and only on set grounds. Tick these boxes before the appeal is sent.

1. Can this decision be appealed?

Tick one (Section 18.5).

  • [ ] A certification-status decision
  • [ ] An employment-grade result released to an employer
  • [ ] An access-support decision that affects access to assessment
  • [ ] A suspension

A development reading decides nothing and cannot be appealed. A comment on it is a complaint (Sections 18.5, 18.7).

2. Which ground applies?

Tick each that applies (Section 18.6).

  • [ ] An anchor applied wrongly
  • [ ] An observation the transcript does not support
  • [ ] A procedural failure
  • [ ] An access support denied, or materially not applied as approved
  • [ ] An assessor conflict not declared
  • [ ] A material technical failure
  • [ ] A translation or localisation defect that could change what was asked
  • [ ] The near-cut rule not applied
  • [ ] The required sitting mode not met

Disagreeing with an anchor itself is a comment on the Standard, for the review board, not an appeal.

3. Is the appeal ready to send?

  • [ ] The appeal will be sent within 30 days of the decision.
  • [ ] Result released for hiring: sent within five working days of release, so the commissioning organisation holds any adverse communication until the decision (Sections 12.11, 18.5).
  • [ ] Report received (Section 12.5); transcript requested if needed (Section 14.5).
  • [ ] The appeal names the decision and the ground.

Re-running the scoring rule is not the review. The review looks for a rule or anchor applied wrongly, evidence extracted wrongly, or a technical or procedural failure (Section 18.5).

What follows

Appeal is free for the first instance. The reviewer had no part in the original decision or delivery (Sections 17, 18.5). Outcome and reasons come in writing. A hiring-related appeal is decided within ten working days.

What this does not claim: that an appeal will change a result. This checklist is not legal advice.
