AIRS-J/1 · Campus track

The Campus track, for students and recent graduates.

Campus is the track of AIRS-J/1 for final-year students of institutes of higher learning and for graduates in their first two years of work. It uses the same dimensions, anchors, thresholds and decision rules as every other track, on workplace scenarios at entry level (Section 13).

Status, 18 October 2026: Campus is a pilot with institutions by invitation. No partner is named. No sitting has run yet.

Certification comes from a separate Assessment on an approved instrument. The official instrument is StepSim, built by Exeter Labs (Annex F). The owner of AIR APAC also owns Exeter Labs, and the Standard declares this common ownership in section 4.9.

Pilot with institutions by invitation

What Campus is

One Standard, with a track for entry-level work.

AIRS-J/1 assesses how a person decides when working with, alongside or in supervision of AI systems. It does not assess what they know. The Standard is single. Its tracks differ in scenario complexity, stakes density and the number of stakeholders. They do not differ in dimensions, anchors, thresholds or decision rules (Section 13).

Campus scenarios are workplace scenarios at entry level: the person has bounded authority and a named supervisor to escalate to, fewer stakeholders, and bounded consequences.

The Standard calls this use Readiness. Its evidence is a Campus-track Assessment. The result may decide Campus certification, which the holder releases to employers. An employer may also commission a Campus-track Assessment of its own graduate applicants (Sections 2 and 13.4).

Section 13.1 of the Standard, verbatim.

13.1 A Campus certification and a Professional certification are not equivalent, are not convertible, and are recorded distinctly in the register. Any representation of one as the other is misuse. To an employer, a Campus certification means the holder met every certification rule in Section 12 on decisions of the kind an entry-level employee makes with AI in the work. A Campus holder reaches Professional by a full Professional Assessment; the Campus band confers no credit (Section 18.2). That sentence is printed on the Campus credential and carried in the register's scope description (Section 14.1).

Who it is for

Students, recent graduates, institutions and graduate employers.

1

Final-year students

Final-year students of institutes of higher learning.

2

Recent graduates

Graduates in their first two years of work. A candidate who is eligible for more than one track chooses the track, and the register shows the track sat (Section 13.2).

3

Institutes of higher learning

An institution may commission Campus Assessments for its students, under the terms of Section 13.4 set out on this page.

4

Employers of graduates

An employer that assesses graduate applicants may use the Campus track. An employer that assesses its own employees uses the Professional track (Section 13.2). No market is open for hiring use yet. Read the hiring section.

If you are a student or graduate

What a student receives.

  • A full report, whether or not you certify: every separately reportable dimension score, the four domain scores, the band, the confidence level, the stakes profiles assessed, the anchors applied, the model-assisted proportion and the evidence cited for each observation (Section 12.5).
  • If you certify, a credential with the track printed on it. A band without a track has no meaning (Section 13.2). The credential is valid for two years from issue (Section 18.1).
  • The credential belongs to you. No employer, sponsor or delivery partner may withhold, revoke, condition or claim ownership of it, including where they paid for it (Section 14.4).
  • You decide which employers see your result. You release your result or credential yourself, by credential code or by naming the party. Your institution passes no named result to an employer (Section 13.4).
  • Verification is free. Anyone who holds your credential code can check it, with no account and no registration (Sections 14.2 and 14.3). Your name appears in the searchable register only if you give separate consent, and you may withdraw that consent (Section 14.2). Check a credential.
  • You may decline the Assessment with no academic penalty, except where a course rule published before you enrolled applies. A Campus result is never a condition of graduation (Section 13.4).
  • You may obtain your own transcript and result, and ask for factual errors in it to be corrected (Section 14.5).
  • You may appeal a certification decision within 30 days. The first appeal is free (Section 18.5). Read the appeals procedure.
  • After a Not Certified outcome, you may sit again no sooner than 30 days later, on a different form (Section 9.4).

If your sitting is already booked, read Your sitting. To present on your own, apply for assessment.

If you are an institution

What the institution does, and what it receives.

The institution agrees to these terms (Section 13.4)

  • Before students start, it tells them that it receives each student's result by name for teaching and advising and for its own cohort reporting, and for nothing else. This is a stated term of the commissioned Assessment.
  • A named adviser holds any Not Certified, Provisional or Insufficient result, apart from the academic record. Such a result is not used for selection, ranking, scholarship, placement, internship allocation or discipline.
  • It passes no named result to an employer.
  • It never makes a Campus result a condition of graduation. A result may form part of a course grade only where the institution published the rule to students before they enrolled in the course, offers an alternative route to the same grade, and never fails a student on this result alone.
  • It is responsible for its own lawful basis and notice to students. AIR APAC provides a standard student notice (Annex A21).
  • In prospectuses and course pages, it describes the credential in the words of Sections 2.1 and 13.1 only.
  • It does not publish its rate as a comparison with another institution.

The institution receives

  • Before it commissions a cohort, a written statement from AIR APAC of the certifying forms available to that cohort, the sitting window, the retakes allowed and the form each uses, the identity-check method and who staffs it, and the exposure threshold at which a form is withdrawn (Section 13.5).
  • Each student's result by name, for teaching and advising (Section 13.4).
  • A team view for its own cohort reporting: counts of levels and bands across the students assessed. A team view covers ten people or more. Below ten, no team view is given (Section 12.7).
  • A report of Campus outcomes by institution, institution type and programme discipline, from fairness monitoring (Section 15.2). AIR APAC publishes no institution's rate as a comparison (Section 13.4).
  • If a form leaks: where a form is withdrawn for leakage during a sitting window, students already certified keep their credential, and AIR APAC re-sits affected students at its own cost (Section 13.5).

For prospectuses, course pages and student advice

What may be said, and what must not be said.

An institution describes the credential in the words of Sections 2.1 and 13.1 only. A holder or organisation that states a claim beyond its basis in this Standard is acting outside it (Section 2.1).

You may say

The Campus row of Section 2.1, verbatim.

Judgment-ready for AI-enabled work (Campus). The holder met the certification rules on the Campus track, on workplace scenarios at entry level (Section 13).

You may also use the sentence from Section 13.1 that says what a Campus certification means to an employer, quoted above. A course may describe itself as aligned to AIRS-J/1 only where it meets Section 20.1 and publishes its outcome map. A course that does not meet Section 20.1 may say it is informed by AIRS-J/1, and makes no alignment claim.

You must not say that a Campus result or credential is any of these.
You must not sayBecause
Job-ready, fit for a role, or suitable for a positionNo AIR APAC, partner or licensee material describes a result this way (Section 12.6).
Predictive of job performanceThat claim needs a published criterion study for a named role family (Section 2.1, check V8). The Campus claim does not make it. See the validation report.
Equal to, or convertible into, a Professional certificationThe two are not equivalent and not convertible. Representing one as the other is misuse (Section 13.1).
A basis for selection, ranking, scholarship, placement, internship allocation or disciplineThe institution uses named results for teaching, advising and its own cohort reporting, and for nothing else (Section 13.4).
A ranking of students or of institutionsAIR APAC publishes no individual league tables, and no institution's rate as a comparison (Sections 12.7 and 13.4).
A condition of graduationA Campus result is never a condition of graduation (Section 13.4).
Accredited, or recognised by a regulator or funding bodyNo regulator, university or professional body recognises this credential. See Recognition today.
A measure of intelligence, personality, AI technical skill or domain expertiseIt measures observable decision behaviour (Section 2.1).

How a sitting runs

What the Standard sets for a Campus sitting.

Where the Standard leaves a figure open, this page says it is not yet decided.

1

Before the cohort

AIR APAC states in writing the certifying forms, the sitting window, the retakes and the form each uses, the identity-check method and who staffs it, and the exposure threshold (Section 13.5). Each track keeps at least two non-overlapping certifying forms (Section 9.4).

2

Teaching is separate from the Assessment

Practice and teaching inside a course are development (Section 20). Campus certification needs a separate Assessment on held-back scenarios (Section 9.3).

3

Identity

Identity is checked at the start of each certifying session, by a method recorded in the assessment log. A remote session needs a live check (Section 9.1).

4

AI in the sitting

The AI systems provided inside the assessment are expected to be used. Using AI tools outside the provided environment during a certifying session is prohibited. Students are told this before the session begins (Section 9.2).

5

Access support

A student may ask for an access support before the Assessment and receives a written decision with reasons. Read how to ask.

6

The result

The decision rules of Section 12 apply as on every track: all six requirements must be met, and certified results are reported in bands. Read the decision rules.

7

Sitting again

After a Not Certified outcome, a student may sit again no sooner than 30 days later, on a different form (Section 9.4).

8

Not yet decided

The sitting length, and the ratio of practice to Assessment. The Standard lists both for a Campus implementation note (Annex A20).

Teaching before the sitting

Teaching and practice content.

  • Practice and teaching inside a course may be graded as the institution sees fit (Section 13.4). They decide nothing about certification.
  • A course aligned under Section 20.1 may sit inside a credit-bearing module (Section 13.5). An aligned course uses no held-back Assessment content and no leaked content (Section 20.1).
  • Retired scenarios may be released for practice. AIR APAC publishes the list of released practice scenarios, so that trainers and institutions know which content may be used in practice (Section 9.3).
  • A record that a student completed a course carries no level, band or confidence, and confers nothing toward certification (Section 20.2).

Students and their data

Who sees a student's result, and what is kept.

  • The institution receives named results for teaching, advising and its own cohort reporting only. A named adviser holds adverse results apart from the academic record. The institution passes no named result to an employer (Section 13.4).
  • The register records the credential code, track, role edition where used, band, confidence, standard version, issue date, expiry date, status and the plain-language scope description. It does not record the employer, dimension scores, stakes profiles or any transcript content (Section 14.1).
  • Demographic data for fairness monitoring is optional, collected separately from scoring and never used in scoring. A student may decline without effect (Section 15.1).
  • Assessment data is used by AIR APAC and its instrument provider to operate, validate and improve the Standard and the official instrument. It is not sold (Section 14.7).
  • Where a transcript or result is kept only for the evidence programme and improvement, it is kept without the person's name and contact details unless they have agreed to a named record (Section 14.6).
  • The retention period for each purpose, and where the data is hosted, are published before the first sitting. Retention periods are stated in the student notice (Section 14.6).
  • The institution is responsible for its own lawful basis and notice to students. AIR APAC provides a standard student notice (Annex A21). See also the privacy policy.

Not accredited by any regulator or funding body.

The Campus credential is not accredited by any regulator or funding body. No regulator, university or professional body recognises this credential. ISO/IEC 17024 is a design reference only. Alignment of a course to AIRS-J/1 is not an accreditation by any funding body and does not by itself qualify a programme for funding (Section 20.1).

For institutions

Make an enquiry.

Campus is a pilot with institutions by invitation. No partner is named.

To ask about a Campus cohort, use the contact page and choose the topic "Campus enquiry from an institution". You can also write to indhran@airapac.org. Please say which institution and programme you are writing for, the approximate number of students, and the country. We reply within two working days.

Before any cohort is commissioned, AIR APAC states in writing what Section 13.5 requires: the forms, the sitting window, the retakes, the identity-check method and the exposure threshold.

Read the rules in full: Section 13, Tracks, Section 13.4, Institutions and students, Section 13.5, Campus capacity and Section 2.1, what a result and a credential claim.
