AIRS-J/1 ยท Questions and answers

Can a Campus certification become a Professional one?

No. A Campus certification and a Professional certification are not convertible. A Campus holder reaches Professional by a full Professional Assessment, and the register shows each credential with its own track.

Judgment is how well a person decides once AI has given the answer. AIRS-J/1 is the Standard AIR APAC publishes for judgment in AI-enabled work. The Campus track is for final-year students of institutes of higher learning and for graduates in their first two years of work. The Professional track is for practising managers and individual contributors (Section 13). The answers below state the rules for a Campus candidate who expects to move into professional work. They also cover a person who is later issued a Campus certification.

Can a Campus certification become a Professional one?

No. Section 13.1 states that a Campus certification and a Professional certification "are not equivalent, are not convertible, and are recorded distinctly in the register". Neither certification can be converted into the other.

How does a person with a Campus certification reach Professional?

By a full Professional Assessment. Section 13.1 says so in a sentence that is printed on the Campus credential and carried in the register's scope description. The sentence reads: "A Campus holder reaches Professional by a full Professional Assessment; the Campus band confers no credit (Section 18.2)". All six decision rules in Section 12.2 must be met, including the rules on evidence (Section 8.3), stakes coverage (Section 6.4) and confidence.

Does a Campus band count towards a Professional certification?

No. Section 13.1 states that the Campus band confers no credit, and points to Section 18.2. Section 18.2 states that a prior band "confers no credit, no exemption and no reduced evidence requirement". A Campus holder is assessed in full on the Professional track, with no reduced evidence requirement. There is no shortened Professional Assessment for Campus holders.

What is different on the Professional track?

The scenarios. There is one Standard for every track. The tracks differ in scenario complexity, stakes density and the number of stakeholders. They do not differ in dimensions, anchors, thresholds or decision rules (Section 13). Campus scenarios are set at entry level: bounded authority with a named supervisor to escalate to, lower stakeholder density and bounded consequence. Professional scenarios carry full stakeholder density, organisational consequence and live authority boundaries.

Which track does a candidate choose?

A candidate eligible for more than one track chooses the track, and the register shows the track the candidate was assessed on (Section 13.2). An employer that commissions the assessment of its own employees uses the Professional track or a role edition of it (Section 13.2). An employer that commissions the assessment of graduate applicants may use the Campus track (Section 13.2).

Who owns a Campus credential, and how long is it valid?

It belongs to the holder (Section 14.4). It is valid for two years from issue (Section 18.1). The register records each credential distinctly. For each one it shows the credential code, track, band, confidence, standard version, issue date, expiry date, status and plain-language scope description (Sections 13.1 and 14.1). The register does not record the employer, the dimension scores or any transcript content (Section 14.1).

How can an employer see which track a credential is from?

Track is printed on the credential and displayed in the register. Section 13.2 states: "A band without a track has no meaning". Section 13.1 states what a Campus certification means to an employer. The holder met every certification rule in Section 12 on decisions of the kind an entry-level employee makes with AI in the work. Any party holding the credential code can check the register entry. Verification is free and needs no account (Sections 14.2 and 14.3).

May a Campus certification be described as a Professional one?

No. Section 13.1 states: "Any representation of one as the other is misuse". Material misrepresentation of a credential's meaning after issue is one of the limited grounds for suspension or revocation in Section 18.4. That section sets out written notice of the allegation, 21 days to respond, written reasons and a right of appeal.

What does it cost?

Fees are confirmed at registration. Verification is free. Sittings are arranged through a trainer or an organisation's learning and development team, who confirm the date. No sitting has run yet.

What this does not claim

  • It does not say that a Campus credential can be converted, added to or transferred.
  • It does not say that a Campus band earns any credit or exemption on the Professional track.
  • It does not describe a Professional certification as replacing or ending a Campus one. The register records each credential distinctly, with its own track and dates.
  • It does not say that either certification shows occupational competence (Section 2.2). A credential is not a substitute for supervision, professional licensing or regulatory authorisation (Section 2.1).

AIR APAC publishes the standard for judgment in AI-enabled work, certifies people against it through its official instrument, and stands behind every result.
