How is a reading traced to what the person did?
When a result says that a person did something, AIRS-J/1 requires the evidence to be in the record, where it can be pointed at.
A fictional example
When a result says that a person did something, AIRS-J/1 requires the evidence to be in the record, where it can be pointed at.
What the record keeps
The transcript retains "the full decision trace: decisions, artifacts, sources consulted, stated rationale, revisions and timings" (Section 8.7). Self-assessment, survey response, declared experience, training attendance and manager endorsement "generate no observations" (8.2).
What each observation carries
Section 8.8 sets the rule: "Every observation must be traceable to identified evidence in the transcript. An observation whose evidence cannot be pointed at does not exist". Annex C sets each observation's fields, among them the anchor text applied ("Verbatim from Section 7.5") and the transcript evidence ("Direct citation of the candidate's action, artifact or statement"). "An observation missing any field is void."
What the candidate sees
The candidate receives the anchors applied and the evidence cited for each observation, whether or not they certify (Section 12.5).
One fictional decision, worked through
1. The situation. Somchai Prasert is quality manager for a regional food distributor. He must approve a new packaging supplier before Friday's production run. Approving a supplier without a current food-safety certificate could expose the distributor to a product recall.
2. What the AI produced. DrongoAI: "Supplier B holds a current food-safety certificate. It appears in the industry register of certified suppliers. I am 92 percent sure."
3. The check. Somchai opened the certificate itself and read the expiry date. It had lapsed two months earlier. He asked the supplier for the renewal.
4. The decision, and who was told. He held the approval until the renewed certificate arrived, and told the purchasing head and the product owner. His approval note recorded which claim he had checked, against which document.
5. What happened after. Three months later an auditor asked for the supplier file. The note showed what was checked and against which document.
The trace. The scene happened at work, not in an Assessment. An Assessment record would point to the act ("opened the certificate and read the expiry date before approving") and the decision point. It would name the dimension, T1 Evidence Verification (Section 5), and quote the anchor text (7.5): "Checks the load-bearing claim against an available source before acting, unprompted". This illustration assigns no level and is not a completed observation record. An actual observation record must contain every required field (Annex C).
What this does not claim
- One act does not give a level, and the person here has none.
- The scene is not an assessment scenario or preparation for one (9.3, 9.5).
- This page makes no claim that reading it improves anyone's chance of certifying (20.2).
- A reading describes what a person did. The credential is not "a measure of intelligence or personality" (2.1).
Judgment is how well a person decides once AI has given the answer. AIR APAC publishes the standard for judgment in AI-enabled work, certifies people against it through its official instrument, and stands behind every result.
