Train to run StepSim sessions in your own programmes.

Six to eight weeks online for trainer partners: one live session a week, practice on synthetic groups, and a capstone session with a real group. Completion certifies the trainer, and Exeter Labs issues the certification and the licence to run StepSim sessions.

At a glance

What the programme is

Format

Online, six to eight weeks

Live session

One a week

Practice

On synthetic groups, with feedback between sessions

Capstone

One real session, run with a real group and observed

Certifies

The trainer, on completion, against the StepSim facilitator standard

Issued by

Exeter Labs, which licenses the trainer to run StepSim sessions

Not the same as

AIRS-J/1 participant certification, which is a separate assessment on StepSim, issued by AIR APAC under Section 12 of the Standard. No course awards that, and this programme does not shorten it

For

Trainer partners and consultants who run sessions in organisations

Client

The client the trainer brings stays the trainer's

Fit

Who it is for, and who it is not for

For

Trainers and consultants who already deliver to organisations

People who run workshops, capability programmes or team sessions and want a practice instrument to put inside them, under licence, in their own name and with their own client relationship intact.

Not for

Anyone looking for a first qualification, or for a licence to assess

This certifies a person to facilitate StepSim sessions, and nothing else. It is not the AIRS-J/1 assessment, it does not make anyone an assessor, and it confers nothing on the people a facilitator works with.

How it runs

Practice first, then a real session

  1. Six to eight weeks, online

Material to work through between sessions, and one live session a week on a fixed weekday. The length depends on how many sessions a facilitator needs before the capstone.

  2. Practice on synthetic groups

Facilitators run the missions on groups that are not their own clients, with feedback between sessions. Nothing is practised on a real client's people until the capstone.

  3. A capstone session with a real group

The final session is the real thing: a real group, run by the candidate, observed. That is what the certification rests on.

What completion gives you

A certification, a licence, and your own client

The certification

Exeter Labs certifies the facilitator

This is the one place in the training arm where the word certifies is used of a course. It is a facilitator certification issued by Exeter Labs, and it licenses the holder to run StepSim sessions. It is not the AIRS-J/1 participant certification, which is issued by AIR APAC under Section 12 of the Standard after a separate assessment on StepSim.

The licence

The licence to run StepSim sessions comes with it

A certified facilitator may run StepSim sessions inside their own programmes. The licence is issued by Exeter Labs at the same time as the certification.

The commercial position

The client stays yours

Trainers who bring a client keep that client. AIR APAC and Exeter Labs do not market around a trainer to the client that trainer brought.

The boundary

Facilitation and assessment stay apart

A facilitator who has trained someone does not assess that person for certification. Practice never awards a certifying result, and no session outcome enters the certifying item bank.

Enquiries

One purpose, one message

Tell us what you deliver today, to whom, and where. We answer about the facilitator programme, and nothing else, through the contact route. The fee is not published here: it is proposed and not yet ruled on, and it is set out in the partner conversation.

Questions

Plain answers

Is this the same as being certified under the Standard?

No, and the two are kept apart on purpose. This certifies a person to facilitate a practice instrument, and it is issued by Exeter Labs. Certification under AIRS-J/1 is a separate assessment on StepSim, decided by AIR APAC under Section 12 of the Standard, and holding this programme certification neither grants it nor shortens it.

Why is no price shown?

Because the fee is proposed and not yet ruled on. It is not withheld from a buyer who asks: it is simply not a published number yet, so it is not printed here.

Do I need to have used StepSim before?

No. The programme starts from the instrument and the missions, and the practice weeks are where a facilitator learns it. What the programme does assume is that you already run sessions with groups.
