Level 1 · Free on demand, founding cohort free to member cities

Use AI at the tourism desk without breaking trust.

Twelve short videos over four weeks, for city tourism officers who are expert in their own work and new to AI. The twelve videos are free to anyone, permanently, with no account. The founding cohort, which adds the homework, the clinic and the written comments, is free to TPO member cities for that one sponsored run. It is desk skill, not a certificate. Enrolment for the founding cohort is through the TPO Secretariat.

What you will be able to do

Five things, by the end of week four

Each one is practised on a real task from your own desk, not on an example from ours.

  • Give. Sort any desk task into what an AI engine may draft, what it may help with, and what it must not own.
  • Specify. Write a brief the engine can follow: the ground rules first, then Persona, Action, Context and Examples.
  • Check. Catch plausible errors in polished output, and verify every claim against a named record rather than against the engine.
  • Check. Trace where an AI answer about your city comes from, and put a missing event or festival back into it.
  • Own. Bring one clear AI decision to your director on one page, with an owner, a task, a check and a date.
Fit

Who it is for, and who it is not for

For

City tourism officers and their desks

Promotion, partnerships, visitor services, events and communications. People who draft, forward and sign, and who already use a public AI tool at work or know a colleague who does. No technical background is assumed and none is taught.

Not for

Anyone looking for tools, prompts to copy, or a credential

This course does not compare AI products, does not hand out a prompt library, and does not assess anyone. If you want to be certified under the Standard, that is a separate assessment on a separate instrument. No course enters it.

The four weeks

Three videos, one homework, one clinic. Every week.

Weeks open on a Monday and stay open. The clinic is optional, sixty minutes, on one fixed weekday, through the Secretariat. Homework minutes are the four figures the Secretariat holds.

The four weeks of Level 1. Video minutes are the sum of the twelve built deck runtimes, 6.0 to 7.2 minutes each at 150 words per minute: 20.9, 19.7, 19.7 and 19.9 minutes.
Week Theme Videos Homework Clinic Reading
1 Give. What AI already does at the tourism desk, and what to hand over. 3 videos, about 21 minutes 20 minutes. List three tasks on your desk you would be tempted to hand over, sort them into draft, help with and must not own, and rewrite one weak brief as a P.A.C.E. brief. 60 minutes. What is on your desk that AI already touches. The Three Rules card.
2 Specify. The same task, a different result. 3 videos, about 20 minutes 30 minutes. Write one real brief for one real task, run it with no confidential data, and mark five claims in the output that need checking. 60 minutes. We fix briefs live. The P.A.C.E. card and the five-row matrix.
3 Check. Verify before you forward, and see where the answers come from. 3 videos, about 20 minutes 30 minutes. Ask two engines what a traveller should do in your city next month, write down the three sources each answer draws on, and check one real event has a name, this year's dates, a venue and a page an engine can read. 60 minutes. The source clinic. The source ladder and the one-event test.
4 Own. Name the owner, and bring a clear decision back to the director. 3 videos, about 20 minutes 45 minutes. The one-page AI desk plan for your city, on the template. 60 minutes. Desk plans read aloud. The desk plan template and the ten-term glossary.
The twelve videos

What you receive

Two things, and nothing else

On completion

A Record of Participation

It records that you took part in the four weeks. It is not a certificate and not a qualification. Nothing in this course assesses or scores you or your city, and no employer receives a report on you.

Week 4 onwards

Your AI desk plan, returned with written comments inside a week

One page for your city: the task, the owner, the check and the date. The instructor reads every desk plan and returns written comments inside a week. The plan stays yours and your city's.

Homework sheets and the desk plan template

Both are open downloads. No registration, no email, no account. They sit beside this page when the cohort opens.

Instructor

One instructor, twelve videos, every clinic in the founding cohort

Instructor

Indhran Seghar

Founding Director, AIR APAC. Author of AIRS-J/1, the Standard for managerial judgment in AI-enabled work. Spoke on how AI sees your city at the 10th TPO Forum, Taichung, September 2026.

He records every video and runs every clinic in the founding cohort. From the second cohort a facilitator trained on this material takes the clinics.

Enrolment

Three steps, through the TPO Secretariat

The founding cohort is capped at 25 officers, up to two per member city. The Secretariat holds the roster, sends the weekly note and issues the clinic invitation.

  1. Ask your Secretariat contact for the one-page form

City and organisation, your name, role and office email, your director's name, one task on your desk that an AI engine already touches or could, and your preferred clinic language: English, Korean or Vietnamese.

  2. Return it before the enrolment deadline

The Secretariat confirms your place and sends the week one note on the open date. The deadline and the open date are set by the Secretariat, and they are published when TPO confirms them.

  3. Block about three hours a week for four weeks

About twenty minutes of video, twenty to forty-five minutes of homework, and one optional sixty-minute clinic.

Questions

Plain answers

Is it really free?

Yes. The twelve videos are free to watch, permanently, with no account. The founding cohort, which adds the weekly homework, the clinic and the written comments on your desk plan, is free to TPO member cities for this one run: it is a 100 percent discount on a sponsored run, recorded as such. From the second cohort the cohort layer is sponsored.

Can I watch without joining the cohort?

Yes. Watch in order, one week at a time. The homework sheets and the desk plan template are open downloads once they are published with the cohort. Only the clinic and the written comments need a place in the cohort.

Do I need an AI tool or a subscription?

Any public AI tool your office already allows. The course never asks you to paste confidential or unpublished material into one. No tool is sold here and none is recommended.

What languages?

English first. Korean and Vietnamese subtitles for the founding cohort if TPO funds local review and translation.

Is there an exam or a score?

No. You receive a Record of Participation for taking part. Nothing here assesses or scores you or your city. Certification under AIRS-J/1 is a separate assessment on a separate instrument, and nothing from this course enters it.

What comes after Level 1?

Level 2 is a sponsored cohort for destination organisations: six weeks, ten modules, a weekly live call, four assessed assignments and a StepSim capstone. Its design exists, and the build starts after the founding cohort runs. What officers bring to these clinics is the evidence that shapes it.

What comes after

Level 2, and the route into the Standard

Level 2, AI Fluency for Destination Organisations, is a sponsored cohort for destination organisations and their partners: six weeks, ten modules, a weekly live call, four assessed assignments and a StepSim capstone. It closes on its own assessed artefact, and it is the usual route to a sitting. It is not the AI Ready Leader, which is a separate executive cohort of eight to twelve organisations described under the flagship cohort on the programmes page. Read the Level 2 page for the enrolment route, which is an enquiry rather than a place held for you.

The route to AIRS-J/1 certification is a separate assessment on StepSim, the instrument named in the Standard. It is kept apart from every course by rule: nothing you write in a programme is seen by an assessor, no course awards it, and practice never awards it. The published route is at airapac.org/standard/certification.
